River Don receives another barbel boost

A consignment of young barbel was stocked into the river Don at Kilnhurst on Friday November 28th. 500 fish, spawned and reared at the Environment Agency’s Calveton Fish Farm were delivered early Friday morning and put into the river alongside the Kilnhurst road bridge. Each fish was identified by a small dye mark on the top of it’s head.
This stocking compliments that of the1500 barbel and 500 dace which was made on November 27th 2007 and is part of the regeneration of stock following the pollution in 2006.
