Ravenfield Crucians Provide Stock For Waters Across The Country
Written by Martin Read - 9th June 2008
Nine of Ravenfield's Crucian carp have just returned from a three week holiday in Nottinghamshire. The trip began when Environment Agency officials asked the club if any fish that could be used as brood stock for their fish farm at Calverton.
Evidently some 5 other sites had been approached but all their stock had already spawned, fortunately, for the EA, our fish hadn't and six females and three males were removed by Agency staff in May. These were stripped at the farm and have now all been returned to the Gt. Pond. Their resultant offspring, numbering many, many thousands, are now being looked after at the farm and will be used to stock fisheries around the country in late 2009.
