More barbel for the Don

The river Don at Kilnhurst received a further stocking of small barbel this week. The fish came from the Environment Agency’s fish farm at Calverton near Nottingham. Fisheries staff Peter Mischenko and Pete Turner introduced more than 500 fish to the river below the B6090 road bridge where they swam away to start a new life.

These fish compliment the many others stocked into the river during the last four years, some of which are now being caught by anglers at up to 2.5lbs in weight.

The whole episode was also caught on tape by BBC’s Radio Sheffield.
