Caster Fishing with the long pole with Barry Heappey

Caster fishing with the pole is is a valuable method at Ravenfield and catches all the species present in the lakes.

Start by plumbing up at a distance of 9 to 10 meters, there is no need to go any further when pleasure fishing, find the depth and mark it on your pole with tippex. Then add a further 4 inches so that you are fishing 4 inches over depth.

A good float for caster fishing is the Drennan Roach. About 0.5 gramme should cover most of the pegs on the Gt. Pond. I use 0.10mm dia. line straight through to the hook, a size 20 G Point Black, with a bulk shotting of number 9 shot and then 3 number 11 shot spread evenly from the bulk to the hook with the least shot approximately 20cm form the hook. I shot my float down to a pimple.

Start feeding by cupping in 1 or 2 small balls of groundbait. I use Super Match and Secret mixed 50:50 and add 50 caster over the top. Give the fish time to settle on the feed. Start fishing by burying the hook in the caster bait and feed 4 to 5 casters every five minutes.

If you get bites but miss them try adding another inch to the depth. If the fish come up in the water and you want to get them back on the bottom, stop using the catapult and cup in 20 or 30 casters. Most of all enjoy yourself.
