The mild spell didn’t last long but in between Baker’s thawing and then refreezing again K&DAA managed to complete the two stage operation of applying chalk powder to Baker’s Pond

The first stage, saw 3 tonnes of the micro powdered Siltex chalk, spread throughout the pond earlier this year. News/baker’s-treatment- begun. Then as a follow up a further 2.5 tonnes was added this week, but only just, the ice had to be broken first and the pond has been frozen ever since.

It is claimed that Siltex reduces organic silt, improving water quality and stimulating the aquatic food chain. The initial signs looked positive, time will give a better picture.
